We made our annual visit to NUI Galway yesterday for their Charity Cake Sale and Pet Farm Visit. The students loved all of the animals especially Chili and the baby bunnies!
It’s that time of year again when families nationwide are planning to decorate their homes with a pumpkin.
But for farmer Denise Buckley in Lispopple Swords, the yard is full of over 2000 newly harvested pumpkins ready to be delivered to Wooly Ward’s Farm for pumpkin carving over Halloween.
Denise is one of only two growers in North County Dublin who plant acres of pumpkins each year. This year the harvest is plentiful with the pumpkins having a great size. Denise puts it down to the mild weather conditions we have had over the growing season.
Just down the road from Denise, Mary Ward & her family (who happens to be a cousin of Denise’s husband) runs Wooly Ward’s Farm.
Wooly Ward’s Farm opened up in 2011 & offers visitors young & old guided activity tours of the farm throughout the year. Thousands of visitors have come in through the gates this year for school tours & days out & they are now expecting in the region of 5000 visitors over the week of Halloween.
Mary (known as Scary Mary at the farm) is looking forward to a fun packed Halloween Experience this year. “Apart from pumpkin carving, we have Owls from Newgrange Falconry, Reptiles, The House of Horrors, The Fuineamh Drum that was at Electric Picnic, our pantomime show – The Terrible Toothache staring Dracula & the three Witches – Mena, Mina & Mo and of course chocolate apple decorating as well”
Denise also supplies the 2000 apples needed for the chocolate apples & Scary Mary is delighted that she can guarantee her visitors home grown local produce from her cousins farm!
Wooly Ward’s Farm is delighted to launch the 2015 Halloween Spectacular on the farm! Scary Mary will be opening the gates on the 24th, 25th, 26th, 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st of October and she can’t wait to see everyone in their fancy dress!
Preparation has already begun for Halloween on Wooly Ward’s Farm. The pumpkins are growing in the field, the apples are nearly ready to be harvested and the owls and reptiles are pampering themselves getting ready for a busy week next month.
Come and Decorate Pumpkins, make Chocolate Apples, play the Fuinneamh Drum, visit the Owls, hold the Reptiles, brave the House of Horrors and enjoy our own original Halloween Show. Of course everyone’s favourite activities will be there such as pony rides, rides on Thomas the Tank Engine, the Petting Shed, playtime on the Tractor slide and more!
Warm up in the Cackling Cafe with a hot tea/coffee and a slice of homemade cake or scones. Lots of treats available for the little monsters also!
We advise booking early to avoid disappointment. To book, choose your date below and follow the instructions. We are all so excited for our Halloween Spectacular this year, and we hope you are too!
